Permission to Be Your Whole Self

I talk a lot on here and Instagram about connecting with your true self, being who you really are, and letting your intuition lead the way. But I think sometimes that can come across as a bit vague or unattainable. Like, somehow if we were living as our true selves, we’d always be happy, positive, and living at one with nature on a spiritual journey.

And while it’s certainly true that living in alignment with who we truly are can bring contentment - and sometimes a spiritual side of life - it’s also true that there is no way this journey ‘should’ look for you.

Personally, I engage in a lot of spiritual practices like manifestation and meditation, but I’m also someone who loves a banter-filled weekend away with friends and watching dramas on Netflix in the evening. I was actually reflecting this past weekend on how much I love living the full spectrum of life - not tying myself to being a certain type of person just because I’m a coach or because I consider myself to be on a healing or spiritual path.

Because once we bring in the word should, we’ve already started losing access to our true selves.

Being your true self isn’t some mystical thing - it’s just being yourself as often as you can. It’s about living your life in a way that lights up your soul – not because it’s what’s expected of you or what others might prefer you were doing.

This also applies to emotions. You don’t need to be positive all the time just because you’re on a spiritual path or trying to connect to your true self. It’s about being honest with what you’re feeling in the moment - whether positive or negative - and honouring that. Life is not always rosy once you reconnect with yourself – it’s still life! And it’s okay to acknowledge that and meet yourself with compassion through the good times and the bad.

We don’t mask parts of ourselves on this journey - we offer self-compassion where we can, and forgiveness where we can’t. There are no rules, and there’s no right way to be you.

Reconnecting with yourself and what you truly need is a beautiful journey. But don’t get lost in the idea of what your true self ‘should’ look like. Your heart and soul will always guide you and have the answers. Let yourself be you and live the full spectrum of this wonderful life.
